University of Rhode Island – Keaney Lot Reconstruction
South Kingstown, Rhode Island
BETA was retained by the University of Rhode Island (URI) to provide field investigation, engineering and landscaping design, and permitting coordination for the reconfiguration and reconstruction of the Keaney Parking Lot (approximately 12 acres) on the URI Kingston Campus in South Kingstown, RI.
The project consists of 1) an investigation and conceptual design stage, including base map generation (using GIS data and field surveys) and subsurface investigations (pavement cores, soil borings, and soil/water table evaluations), followed by 2) the design development stage, in which the conceptual plan is advanced to a construction-ready plan and technical specifications for same.
Design elements for the Keaney parking lot reconstruction include: parking lot boulevard configuration design, lot grading plan, lot lighting/electrical service design, traffic access gate relocation, stormwater management design (including a complete drainage collection, conveyance system, and stormwater quality treatment measures), and design of landscaping along with other aesthetic features. The project will include permitting through the RIDEM Freshwater Wetlands and RIPDES programs, which will require conformance with the 2010 Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual (RISDISM).
