Speen Street Roadway Reconstruction
Natick, Massachusetts
Speen Street in Natick is regionally important as a north-south collector road extending from the Sherborn Town line to the Framingham City line. The roadway reconstruction included approximately 5,300 feet of Speen Street from the intersection of Route 135 (West Central Street) to a point just south of Route 9 (Worcester Street). BETA’s services included the development of preliminary designs, followed by the preparation of final design / contract documents for the rehabilitation of Speen Street.
The project involved construction of a new sidewalk on the westbound side, reconstruction of a sidewalk on the eastbound side, cold planing and resurfacing, installation of granite curb, areas of box widening and horizontal realignment, guardrail and retaining walls, as well as signs and pavement markings. The design included the creation of several left turn lanes at key locations along the project route. The effort also included the installation of three high visibility pedestrian crossing systems for added safety.
The design development of the project was advanced under a very aggressive schedule to allow for an early spring bid.
