Reconstruction of Route 138
South Kingstown, Rhode Island
BETA was retained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to provide professional engineering services to design roadway resurfacing improvements for a three-mile section of Route 138 between South County Trail (Route 2) and Kingstown Road (Route 108). The project consisted of pavement milling and overlay and installation/replacement of curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. In addition, deck and sidewalk repairs were designed to improve safety and rideability to RIDOT Bridge #372 over Amtrak rail lines.
BETA teamed with RIDOT staff to perform field reviews to determine limits of resurfacing to ensure strict adherence to the construction budget of $900K. The field reviews evaluated existing sidewalk and curb ramps for ADA compliance and Design Waivers for four curb ramp locations were developed and approved.
The project commenced in October 2016 and is still ongoing.
