Main Street Corridor Improvements
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
BETA provided design services for roadway improvements to a 1.8 mile section of Main Street, which is a two-lane arterial and a main east-west link that has Average Daily Traffic of approximately 19,000 vehicles. The project included pavement rehabilitation and the addition of new sidewalks on both sides of the roadway for the entire length of the project, providing a pedestrian link from the Town Center to a nearby school and neighborhoods. The drainage system was upgraded and Best Management Practices for stormwater management were implemented where feasible. The traffic signal at Old Mill Road/Ireta Road was also upgraded. The project was funded through the TIP process and designed in accordance with MassDOT design procedures. The project included preparation of an Environmental Notification Form (ENF) through MEPA, a Notice of Intent (NOI) filing with the Shrewsbury Conservation Commission, and completion of a Stormwater Management Report. The project also included design of an extension of the West Brook culvert with new retaining walls. This beautiful new streetscape brought aesthetic improvements to the area, in addition to safety and traffic flow improvements.
