GIS Needs Assessment and Action Plan

The City of Danbury contracted BETA to perform a Community-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) Study. The main component of this work included meetings with department heads and key personnel for the purpose of evaluating available resources (data, applications, etc.). This process aided in determining the most practical approach for developing GIS data and/or applications in the various City Departments. The digital data created served to support asset management initiatives related to water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and roadways. Meetings were conducted with Engineering, Police, Planning and Zoning, and Tax Assessing.
The primary deliverable for this project was an Action Plan that summarized the status of the City’s current GIS, available record plan information, and other activities that contributed to the development of GIS data layers (ESRI format) or tabular databases. Recommendations and cost estimates were developed for short and long-term projects currently being implemented. In addition to these items, BETA completed a Pilot Field Data Collection Program using GPS equipment and field laptops. This included a portion of the City’s sewer, drainage, and water distribution systems.
