Colrain Road Roundabout
Greenfield, Massachusetts
Major geometric improvements to the intersection of Colrain Road at Colrain Street/College Drive were required for this project. The design converted the two-way stop-controlled intersection to a four-legged modern roundabout. The roundabout features raised deflection islands, a mountable truck apron, a landscaped center island, and enhanced lighting. Other work associated with the project includes new sidewalk extensions to the Four Rivers Charter School, drainage and stormwater management improvements, ADA-compliant wheelchair ramps, bicycle ramps, signs, and pavement markings. Shared accommodations for users are provided in accordance with applicable guidelines.
This project was developed for Greenfield through the MassDOT – Highway Municipal Roadway Program. It involved close coordination with MassDOT District 2.
