Chapel and May Street Water Main Replacement & Streetscape Improvements
Needham, Massachusetts
BETA designed and oversaw construction of a water main installation, sidewalk widening, and roadway and streetscape improvements on Chapel Street and May Street in Needham Town Center.
The Town required that the water main installation and sidewalk upgrades on the business side of the street be completed prior to Thanksgiving to ensure pedestrian safety during Town Hall renovations. BETA greatly accelerated design and construction schedules to accommodate this requirement. The project was open for bids in October and was completed by May of the following year.
The majority of construction was completed nights and weekends to ensure minimal interruption to traffic, safe pedestrian flow, and business access. The project included:
- 2,500 feet of 8-inch water main
- New curbing and pavement
- Sidewalk widening
- New lighting
- New bus kiosk
- Streetscape enhancements
