Downtown Improvement District
Providence, Rhode Island
The Providence Downtown Gateway Project builds on the success of the D.I.D. (Downtown Improvement District) program and magnifies the city’s gateway points throughout a mile long circulator roadway that welcomes motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists into downtown Providence. A combination of planters and hanging baskets coordinated with wayfinding signage, landscaping, sculpture, and lighting will guide people to various destinations throughout the downtown area. BETA has completed the conceptual plans and now is working with the various City and State agencies along with private landowners to orchestrate the numerous work tasks and/or assemble various funding grants. Outreach and coordination with the D.I.D. ‘partners’ has been an ongoing task and has resulted in a major commitment from RIDOT to assist by including proposed work items in ongoing contracts.
