Main Street Crosswalk and Sidewalk Safety Improvements

BETA developed safety concepts and final design improvement plans for two crosswalk locations on Main Street and ten sidewalk/ADA ramp locations. The first crosswalk is located at Railroad Street and the second is located approximately 160 feet south of Elm Street. The design effort consists of bringing the preliminary design (long term improvement concept) to a final design document, as approved by the Select Board meeting.

BETA furnished all labor, materials, equipment, and insurance to perform work required to advance the crosswalks and ADA locations. Two RRFB pedestrian signal systems were designed for two crosswalks. Ten ADA ramps were enhanced for safety improvements and compliance.

The effort included final design and preparation of specifications, construction documents (using the engineer’s standard front end boiler plate), and an engineer’s estimate of probable construction costs. It also included three meetings with the Town and Select Board to discuss the design. One contract bid package was created for all locations.

BETA provided bid assistance to the Town consisting of response to bidder questions. The project was bidded through the standard procurement process. Services during the construction phase were limited to review of shop drawings, RFIs, and response to contractor’s design-related questions.
