Slater Mill Multi-Use Path Improvements
Pawtucket, Rhode Island
This project provides a safe, accessible tree-lined parking lot for busses, cars, and pedestrians to enter the historic Slater Mill complex. Improvements complete an off-road segment of the Blackstone River Bikeway, currently undergoing replacement of its on-road facilities for a safer, more enjoyable experience that brings people closer to the river. The design balances pedestrian, vehicular, and bicycle circulation by allowing the path to skirt around the parking lot to the Roosevelt Avenue sidewalk. The sidewalk is reconfigured to accommodate a 10-foot shared-use path and four-foot planted buffer at the back of the curb. Care is taken to use materials that blend with the historic character of the mill. The segment continues behind City Hall and a future off-road segment will continue along Roosevelt Avenue to Exchange Street.
