Join BETA at Park(ing) Day in Providence on 9/20/13!
September 13, 2013
BETA Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that we will be participating in Providence Park(ing) Day, an event that invites Providence residents and businesses to temporarily repurpose on-street or lot parking spots as something other than parking.
Park(ing) Day is about opening up space in the city, utilizing it for temporary displays or activities other than vehicle parking. For some, the “green spaces” will be a welcome relief from the concrete and metal that typically fill the city’s streets. But some savvy business owners also see potential for increasing customer capacity. For example, it’s rumored that some parking spaces may be converted into large-scale bike parking, which would allow one space to house ten bikes in place of one car.
Of the 35 spaces available for design on Park(ing) Day, BETA selected a location at 184 Weybosset Street at the end of Grant’s block. This situates our parklet in close proximity to two prominent projects completed by the company – the Providence Performing Arts Center Square and Johnson and Wales Campus. BETA will be providing a spot for passerby to rest and relax.
The hope is that Park(ing) Day sponsors will be creative and use their parklet as an area to promote socializing, relaxation – and of course an opportunity to showcase their services or business. In other countries and cities who have held Park(ing) Day events, the spots ranged in uses from a park, an outdoor library, cafe seating, a musical ensemble, an art show, a mini-farmers’ market, and more.
Park(ing) Day will be held on September 20, 2013 all across Providence. Come visit BETA at 184 Weybosset Street from 8am to 6 pm!
